The Islamic Organization of the Southern Tier is dedicated to providing quality Islamic education for our youth and our children. For this, IOST has helped establish The Crescent Academy, a full time Islamic school. For those who are unable to attend the full time Islamic School or who want more Islamic educational activities for their children, IOST provides after school evening classes for children. This program is called the Iqra Academy. In Iqra Academy, children are taught Qur’an, and age appropriate Islamic Studies.
Iqra Academy is IOST Masjid’s evening program for children. Iqra Academy runs four days a week from Mondays through Thursdays, from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM at the masjid. We are open to all boys and girls ages 5-13. If you would like to register your children, please click on the registration link below.
Dates/Timings: Tuesday, September 5, 2017 to Thursday June, 21, 2018
Sessions: Iqra Academy has two sessions, 1) Session 1: 4:30 to 6:00 PM 2) Session 2: 5:30 to 7:00 PM. Students are only allowed to be enrolled in one of the two sessions.
Fees: In order for Iqra Academy to maintain high standards of teachings, fees are collected from the enrolled students. More information about fees is given below, but Iqra Academy believes that no one should be turned away because of a lack of funds. There is tuition assistance available for those who seek it.
Ages: Iqra Academy is open to all boys and girls ages 5 to 13. Students under the age of 5 will not be allowed to attend, while students over the age of 13 will be determined on a case by case basis by the director of Iqra Academy.
Admissions: At this time, Iqra Academy is welcoming new students. You may register by clicking the button above. Iqra Academy does not have a registration period and has rolling admissions. Those who wish to enroll in the middle of the academic year are welcome to.
Please note that each age group and level of students has a class limit. Once the class limit is reached, the admissions will be stopped.
Part-Time Options: In order to make Iqra Academy more accommodating, packages with certain days are available. Children may be enrolled for all 4 days, or less days, such as Tuesdays and Thursdays, etc. Iqra Academy understands that each parents schedule is different, and so parents can choose any days they wish to bring their child(ren). Upon registration, parents will need to note which days the child(ren) will be attending, either 1, 2, or 3 days. Iqra Academy teaches a different Islamic Studies subject each day so students will not get behind by choosing certain days.
Please note that if a child is enrolled in certain days, they must come on that day only and not any other days. If a child does get dropped off on another day, they will not be allowed to attend class.
Subjects & Curriculum
Classes are divided according to ages and are taught the following subjects:
Surahs (Memorization of selected surahs from the Qur’an)
Hadith (Sayings of the Prophet Mohammad peace be upon him)
Fiqh (Islamic Law/Prayer and worship)
Aqeedah (Islamic Beliefs)
Akhlaq & Adaab (Manners and Morals)
Seerah and Tareekh (The life of the Prophet Muhammad SAW and Islamic history)
For the 2017-2018 calendar year, Iqra Academy will be using the An Nasiha Publications cirriculum. The Series from Grade 1 to Grade 8 are used at Iqra Academy. These books are simple, thorough, and provide students with a wide range of Islamic topics and material. For kindergarden, a activity book published by Weekend Learning Publishers is used.
Apart from the above subjects, once in a while we also have arts and crafts based on various Islamic morals, play Islamic games, have pizza parties, and watch Islamic documentaries. Our goal is to provide children a way to love Islam and feel connected to the masjid and other Muslims.
If you would like to learn more about our curriculum, please feel free to contact our director, Imam Anas Shaikh.
