Today we ask you to say NO to Donald Trump’s call to ban Muslims and that you sign a letter to your elected officials urging them to support The Freedom of Religion Act of 2016 (FOR Act), a bill introduced this week by Rep. Don Beyer (D-VA) to counter anti-Muslim political bigotry.
The FOR Act, which has 50 co-sponsors, seeks to amend the Immigration and Nationality Act by adding a section that would prevent religious litmus tests of immigrants entering the US. It states that, “‘Notwithstanding any other provision of the immigration laws, an alien may not be denied admission to the United States because of the alien’s religion or lack of religious beliefs.’’
We were just as horrified as you when Donald Trump called for “a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States,” and since then Trump has repeated and defended this bigoted proposal. Now that Trump is the presumptive GOP nominee, we must push back before it’s too late.
